MORE ABOUT OUTDOOR GIRL

Hello 👋 it’s good to see you here. If you’re happiest outdoors, or love armchair adventures, you’re in the right place.

I feel the most alive when I’m in the mountains, or the wilds of our local moors. I’d love to spend more time there, but it’s not always easy balancing big adventures with everyday life, especially when there are bills to pay.

I’m lucky, I’ve had some incredible adventures over the years. Things like backpacking around the world, standing on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, solo hiking in Crete’s Samaria Gorge, cycling and wild camping in the Outer Hebrides, and many climbing trips around Europe.

But some of the best have been those closer to home. Walking a couple of miles in the snow to cook breakfast on a bench, spending an afternoon in a hammock only ten minutes from the front door, or sleeping overnight in the van on a random trip to the coast.

My husband, Jason, has been my adventure buddy for over 25 years. We both love the big trips, but also know that adventure can be found anywhere. Even in our back garden. It’s all about looking for the fun in everyday life.

So, this website is for all of us who love outdoor adventure, but need it to fit around everyday life. You may see some longer trips where we’ve taken holiday, and I may share bucket list adventures. But you’ll also read about the shorter ones, things you can do in a day or over a weekend..

BTW, it’s not just for girls either! Scroll down to read the story behind the name.

Why Outdoor Girl?

Many years ago, a colleague at work gave me the nickname ‘Outdoor Girl’ because I’d turn up for work on a Monday morning with broken fingernails, grit rash on my hands from climbing, and bruises from various scrapes. I loved sharing stories of the things I’d been doing, and my life outdoors in the mountains. Despite the advancing years, the name (and stories) stuck, so it was the perfect choice when I created this site.

Do you hate clunky websites with loads of pop-up adverts? Me too!

I’ve always wanted to keep this website ad-free. But the cost of things like web hosting and creating new content can build up without the ad revenue that other sites rely on to balance the books.

I very nearly closed the site down in 2019/20 because of the cost. Then I saw that thousands of you were clicking every month to read the posts. I changed my mind and, instead, invested more into building something even better!

So, if you’ve enjoyed a post, found a download helpful, or been inspired to create your own adventures, please consider buying me a coffee to let me know. I guess it’s like bumping into an old friend and treating them to a cuppa.

I know it’s not for everyone, but thank you if you can 🙏
